A recent video uploaded by YouTuber Arun Maini, showcases the next phone in Vivo’s NEX series that single-handedly pushed the smartphone industry to edge-to-edge displays and in-display fingerprint scanners. The video showcases the NEX 3’s waterfall display and its “completely new camera system”.

The NEX 3 that’s expected to debut in September will be the first phone to feature a “waterfall” display that melts into the sides and takes up much more space than we’ve seen other curved-display phones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and the OnePlus 7 Pro take. Now that the display takes up a sizeable part of the sides, the Vivo NEX 3 lacks buttons. Instead, there’s a grippy area that makes for the virtual power buttons and volume rocker. This is similar to what Apple did with the home button on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.

Surprisingly, the phone still retains a headphone jack. The rear-camera setup on the back seems to comprise of three cameras at least and rumours suggest that one of them might be a Samsung 64MP sensor. Towards the end of the video, the pop-up front camera also makes an appearance. But, instead of the single-camera pop-ups we’ve seen, this one has a dual-camera setup that we’ve never seen on any phone before.

Apart from this official video, there a couple of leaks that are floating around the internet. The first claims that the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 855+ and a massive 6,400mAh battery. The second one claims that the NEX 3 will debut with 120W charging technology that Vivo announced at MWC Shanghai this year. This new charging technology can fully charge a 4,000mAh battery in just 13 minutes. If true, this will probably be the fastest charging phone in the world.

With the launch expected to be in September, we’re not too far away from an official announcement. The month of September will also see the launch of the Vivo V17 Pro and the Vivo Z1x.
