Google has introduced a new and immerse shopping experience for customers in India. The new design will offer customers the ability to shop easier, with the help of advanced filters and various review options from multiple retailers. It will be available across various Google products, such as the Shopping homepage, Shopping tab on Google Search and Google Lens.
Google mentioned in its blog, “At Google, our mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful to everyone. That’s why today we are bringing a new and exciting shopping search experience to India.” Users will also the option to check price drops on products, along with a section of the most popular products on Google.
These features will also be available to users with entry level phones, through a Progressive Web App (PWA). The company has also expanded the Merchant Center to Hindi.
The Shopping Tab in Google Search will also allow users to post queries in Hindi and English and show product lists, and review prices from across multiple retailers. Lastly, Style Search in Google Lens, which will integrate with Google Shopping, to offer an all-new visual approach, to find products – clothes, smartphones, home appliances, home décor – by pointing the Lens app.
According to the Sixth Economic Census, India has the second largest population of internet users in the world. While 400 million Indians are online in a day, less than one out of three buy things online. On the business front, there are 58 million SMBs in India, of which 35 percent are engaged in retail trade. However, a very small number of them have an online presence — there clearly exists a huge opportunity for retailers to surface their merchandise to the millions of online consumers.
