Sony launches the new Master Series A9F Bravia OLED range of TVs: Should we be excited?

I’ve seen the price of 4K TVs take a slow but hopeful walk downhill. That is exciting for a few reasons.

Firstly, the 4K resolution makes everything looks better, be it watching the latest Blu-ray flicks or playing games off your console.

Secondly, Sony has been doing a good job with its television range and surely I was excited when I heard about the launch of an upcoming 4K telly from the brand. The Master Series A9F Bravia OLED aims to offer superlative contrast, packed with clarity and ginormous black detail.

Slate Style

One look at the new A9F and you will be mesmerized thanks to a stunning slate style design, with only a stand in the back to holding the unit up. The stand integrates the twin subwoofers in the most stylish manner possible.

Stellar imagery

It features over 8 million self-illuminating pixels which are driven accurately by Sony’s new picture processor X1 Ultimate. This intelligent processor is smart enough to detect and scrutinize each object in the picture through Sony’s new Object-based Super Resolution mechanism for exceptional accuracy and detail.

If you love HDR content, you’ll be happy to know that this new telly from Sony improves on Object-based HDR remaster, which has been now been updated and allows each object to be remastered individually, delivering a more realistic picture. I was able to experience it first hand in the demo zone. However I would be able to reveal more details only once Sony sends in the unit for a proper review.

Acoustic Surface Audio anyone?

Sony aims to deliver concert hall like sound with the AF9 with the improved Acoustic Surface Audio+ audio system, that’s built in. This one not only gets an additional actuator in the center of the screen but is also home to an extra subwoofer channel, totaling to a 3.2 channel sound system. Think of the additional center actuator as a center speaker hidden behind an acoustically transparent screen, similar to what you see in projection systems used in movie theaters and at home. The Sony A9F is able to create an all-engulfing soundstage with the three actuators and two subwoofers facing sideways. This series of Sony TVs also feature a Netflix Calibrated Mode, created to mirror the same picture quality as a studio evaluation master for TV, in order to preserve the artists’ creative vision and intent.

Sony’s new range of Master Series A9F Bravia OLED TVs will be available in two sizes which are 55 and 65in, priced at ₹3,99,990 and ₹5,59,990. We wouldn’t want to comment on how good this telly us until we review it. Look forward to one soon enough.
