When it comes to smartwatches, it’s only recently that Android watches have started to catch up with the industry-leading Apple Watch. But now, apart from conventional smartwatch brands like Samsung, Fossil and Motorola, brands like Xiaomi and OPPO are also actively looking to deliver their own watches.

In an interview with Mashable India, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth has confirmed that it will soon come out with its own smartwatch called the realme Watch. The realme Watch is said to come shortly after the launch of Realme’s Fitness band that is expected to debut alongside the Realme X50 Pro 5G.

The existence of a watch was first teased during the launch event of the Realme X2 730G and the Realme Buds Air, back in December. On the foundation that the brand built with its smartphones, Realme, during the event, announced its vision of creating an ecosystem of products. While CEO Madhav Sheth talked about this, a slide showed vectors of a wallet, a fitness band, and a watch.

The first official indicator by Realme regarding the possibility of launching its own smartwatch.

Now, Realme has discretely confirmed that it’s working on a watch. Although, Madhav didn’t share anything else regarding the watch. We don’t know if it’ll run on Wear OS or have support for third-party applications. But the vector, which may not be a depiction of the actual watch, suggests that the watch will have a circular dial.

After sporadically expanding vertically with its wide range of smartphones, Realme has now planned to expand horizontally. The Realme Powerbank, the Realme Buds, the Realme Buds Wireless and the Realme Buds Air were amongst the first products that adhered to this plan.

Now, in the coming months, Realme will be launching its fitness band, the Realme Buds Air Neo, and yes – even Realme TVs! The immense competition in the smartphone market has made smartphone manufacturers look elsewhere for growth. This is why, we’ve seen the like of XiaomiOnePlusMotorola and Nokia launch their own smart TVs.

Nonetheless, we should start hearing more information about the Realme watch after or during the launch of Realme’s fitness band. Given Realme’s history with pricing, we expect the smartwatch to be priced under INR 15,000 and compete with brands like Amazfit, Fitbit, Honor, and Fossil.

On a related note, Xiaomi too launched its first smartwatch in November last year. Although there’s no word on if it’ll come to India. OPPO is also on the verge of launching its first smartwatch very soon. You can have a look at the teasers of the watch here.
