Behold, the Oscar season is here! We’re less than a month away from the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony which will roll out the red carpet to honor the best in filmmaking in the year 2019. On Monday evening (morning in Pacific Time), Cowboy Bebop‘s John Cho and Insecure‘s Issa Rae announced the Oscars 2020 nominations list, streamed live on Oscar.com, Oscars.org and across The Academy’s social channels.
The Best Picture category sure looks a little overflowing with practically every movie worth watching this year nominated as if they couldn’t decide which ones to keep and which to discard from the shortlist. Joker leads the throng with 11 nominations, including a Best Actor nomination for Joaquin Phoenix and Achievement in Direction for Todd Phillips. In the second movie, we have three movies tied with 10 nominations each—Martin Scorsese’s Netflix release, The Irishman, Sam Mendes’ World War I drama 1917, and Quentin Tarantino’s ode to 1960s Hollywood, Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.
In addition, Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story and Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite each have six nominations apiece.

This year, too, the Oscars will be going host-less, taking cues from last year’s ceremony. Just last week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed their decision to let the presenters do their thing, which last year seems to have gone down well with many viewers.
The 92 Annual Academy Awards will be hosted on February 9, 2020, (February 10 telecast in India) at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
