Google is working on a new “smart screenshots” feature that combines the features of Google Lens and editing screenshots in a toolbar. You can perform all the regular edits on the screenshotted image and share the image with your favorite app with a newly added option of a lens. The lens option allows you to perform a search, optical character recognition, and find visually similar items or images.
The feature is part of the Google app 10.61 beta release and was first spotted by 9to5google who decompiled the APK file. “When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we’re able to see various lines of code within that hint at possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect,” states the report..
However, it’s not clear yet if this feature will work for all screenshots or only on the ones taken in Google search. Moreover, there are no details yet regarding how or when this “smart screenshots” feature will be implemented and if it will be applicable system-wide or on just the Google app.
Apart from the “smart screenshots” feature, Google is also working on allowing users to add bookmarks when listening to Google podcasts’ episode.
