Earlier this year, ASUS took the veils off its next-gen gaming smartphone: the ROG Phone 2. Months after the launch in China, the phone is finally making its way to the Indian market. The phone will be launched on September 23 and is confirmed to be a Flipkart Exclusive.

The ROG Phone 2 builds on the original ROG Phone’s legacy and there’s a lot to dig here, especially for mobile gamers. To start off, the phone is powered by one of the most powerful SoCs in the market; the Snapdragon 855+ SoC. At its launch, the ROG Phone 2 will be the first phone in India to sport this chipset. Coupled with the 855+ SoC is up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 1TB of UFS 3.0 storage.

The ROG Phone 2 is the first phone in the world to sport a 120Hz AMOLED display. The 6.59-inch display doesn’t have a notch and is hence, accompanied by dual-front firing speakers with DTS:X Ultra support. The display also supports HDR10 and is colour-accurate in that it covers 108% of the DCI-P3 colour space.

To justify its positioning as a gaming phone, the phone has two shoulder triggers to the right-hand-side of the phone. The phone also has a vapour chamber that helps with thermal management for sustained peak performance. There’s a bunch of gaming accessories too that includes a new AeroActive cooler which adds a fan to the vent on the side for even better thermal management. To power it all, there’s a beefy 6,000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging that should be perfect for long gaming sessions on the phone.

While the phone retains the RGB ROG logo on the back, the capacitive fingerprint sensor is now replaced by an in-display fingerprint scanner. The phone runs on Android Pie with ROG UI on top. There is a dual-camera setup at the back that comprises of a 48MP primary sensor and a 13MP ultrawide camera. For selfies, there’s a 24MP sensor at the front.

The Euro pricing of the phone might be indicative of the Indian pricing. The base model of the phone is priced at EUR 899 (roughly INR 71,400). Since we’re not too far from the launch, we won’t have to wait too long to know the price. But given it’s features, we can expect the pricing to be in the neighbourhood of the top-end model of the OnePlus 7 Pro.
