Shortly after Apple announced the AirPods Pro, iOS 13.2, which is a prerequisite for using them, was rolled out for all iPhones. iOS 13.2 brings the much-awaited Deep Fusion feature that’s exclusive to the iPhone 11 series. But amongst the crowd of new features that were unveiled, we now also have a confirmation that a long-rumoured Apple device does exist.

The folks over at 9To5Mac dug into the filesystem of the new OS to find a folder that confirms the name of “AirTag”, Apple’s long-rumoured tracking tile. The tracking tile is expected to be able to pair with the new iPhone 11 series that feature the U1 ultra-wideband chip. The U1 chip enables precise indoor tracking and users will be able to locate AirTags via the Find my iPhone application that currently tracks AirPods, iPhones, iPod Touches, iPads and also MacBooks. There’s also a “BatterySwap” video asset that suggests the battery of the AirTag will be swappable.

Earlier reports pointed towards the inclusion of augmented reality capabilities too. This feature will let users use the phone’s camera to pinpoint where the tag is. Crowd-sourced tracking, as we’ve seen on Tile & Chipolo trackers is also expected to make it to the AirTag.

As of now, there isn’t any official confirmation on when the product will be officially unveiled and hit the stores. But given that it’s recently been unearthed, we can expect Apple to announce it very soon. Possibly, this week too. When released, the Apple AirTag will be a competitor to Tile that is currently one of the leading brands in the Bluetooth trackers market.

Alongside the AirTag, Apple is also expected to make a bunch of announcements this week. The MacBook Pro 16, the icon of which was recently spotted in macOS, is also expected to be released. Also, since Apple was mum about iPad Pros at the October event, the veils of the new iPad Pros could be lifted soon.
